James Brooks Passes Away
Memorial services for James D. Brooks, 84, of Ada will be held at a later date.
Mr. Brooks passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at his home. He was born January 2, 1936 at Lindsay to Creal and Alice Duncan Brooks.
He married Loretta Cross in 1954 at Hinton. They had six children, Harold “Wayne” Brooks, Doneta Smith, Carolyn Scott, Eddie Brooks, Patricia Loggins and Janet Shadinger.
James spent most of his working years as a truck driver, driving over 20 years for Beulchers, Enid. In his leisure time, he liked going to Bluegrass festivals. In his later years, he enjoyed going to “Mary’s Barn” listening to country music on Saturday nights.
He later married Jackie Rowan in 1985. She preceded him in death August 10, 2009.
James is survived by his six children; 12 grandkids; many great-grandkids; two brothers, Arland Brooks and wife Penny of Washington State, and Earl Brooks and wife Brenda of Idaho; his sisters, Wynema Myers, Ada, and Marie Braden, Ardmore; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Loretta; his 2nd wife Jackie; two sisters, Edwina Applegate and Freda Skidmore; and brothers-in-law, Winford, Ace, Tony and Billy Joe.
His request was to be cremated and his and Jackie’s ashes be buried between his dad and grandfathers grave at a later date.
The family says those who wish may make memorials to Bible Baptist Church, Ada, or Mary’s Music Barn, Stonewall.
