Rites held for Lonnie Manuel
Services for Lonnie Roy Manuel, 77, of Ada were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the Trinity Baptist Church, Rev. Jamie Perry and Danny Manuel will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakman Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Criswell Funeral Home.
Mr. Manuel died Saturday, October 5, 2024 in an Oklahoma City hospital. He was born in Ada, Oklahoma, January 28th 1947 to Onetia Marie Hardcastle Manuel and Lonnie View Manuel.
Known by many as Lonnie Roy or L.R., he was lifelong resident of the community. He graduated from Byng High School in 1965 and married his high school sweetheart Sue Lynn Hargraves on September 23, 1966. They were married 48 years before she preceded him in death on November 16, 2014. Lonnie Roy was a very active community member that served at many levels. He was a proud Byng School board member, active in Byng Young Farmers, Oklahoma Brahman Breeders Association, Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association, Pontotoc County Beef Producers, and was a board member of the local Soil Conservation Association. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard, 45th Division.
He lived in the Oakman Community for over 50 years serving as a deacon at the Oakman Church many of those years, and was a local dirt track racing legend winning numerous races and multiple championships.
He is survived by his mother Onetia Marie Manuel; girlfriend Debbie Eaton; two sons, Lonnie Roy Manuel, Jr. and wife Kristi and Danny Manuel and wife Janel; one brother, Mark Manuel and wife Debi; three grandchildren, Caden Manuel, Grace Manuel and Blaise Manuel; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Lonnie View Manuel and his wife Sue Lynn Hargraves Manuel.
Bearers were Caden Manuel, Blaise Manuel, Montana Sutton, Anthony Muck, Brennon Manuel and Charlie Forehand. Honorary bearers will be Carl Wade, Marion Craig, Jimmy Pogue, Ted Burns and Jim Parks.
