Rites held for Suzanne Phillips
Martha Suzanne McInroy-Phillips was born on November 29, 1936, at Valley View Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. She departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior on December 30, 2022. Her parents were Wilson James McInroy and Hope Patterson-McInroy. She married Gilbert Wayne Phillips on October 25, 1954.
They eventually moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. Their son, James Wade “Chico”, and daughter, Deonna Alice were born there. Their son, Gilbert Daren, was born in Pauls Valley, OKklahoma. She thrived in her role as wife and mother. In 1968, Healdton, Oklahoma became their permanent home.
Suzanne was an advocate for all school, community, sports, and Methodist Church activities. She focused mainly upon PTA, Methodist Youth Fellowship, and diligently working for food and clothes pantries. Additionally, she served as Worthy Matron for the Rainbow Girls.
Of her many work endeavors, one of her favorites was running the Healdton community pool. She was adored by children of all ages. Halloween was a community event and she cherished each and every goblin that visited their home.
Suzanne is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gilbert; her children Chico and Cindy Phillips of Locust Grove, Deonna and Larry Cumpton of Norman, and Daren and Lisa Phillips of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren Phillip and Denisha Cumpton of Wilson, Lauryn Cumpton of Ardmore, Jayme Phillips of Oklahoma City, and Wilson and Markie Phillips of Locust Grove; her great-grandchildren are Hunter, Leah and Anthony Cumpton and Taylor Phillips; she is also expecting another great- granddaughter later this year. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who will miss her also.
Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Healdton on Wednesday, January 4th, at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Daniel and Rev. Dan Patman officiating. Interment was in the at Allen Cemetery, Allen, Oklahoma, at 2:30 p.m. Services were under the care and direction of Alexander Gray Funeral Home in Healdton.
Pallbearers were Phillip Cumpton, Wilson Phillips, Shane Phillips, Terry Jacobson, Tommy Parker, and Chad Puckett. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Giles, Derry Reynolds, and the late Mike Castellow.
