Rites held for Harvey Nickell

Harvey Wayne Nickell of Duncan went home to be with his Lord on September 7, 2020. He was born on April 18, 1940, in Allen, Oklahoma to Estle E. (aka Double E.) and Lois Ezelle Nickell.

Funeral services were Friday, September 11 th , at 10:00 A.M. at True Gospel Tabernacle Church with Rev. Eddie Jackson, Rev. Charles Hancock, and Suffragan Bishop Sherman P. Tyler officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Jordan Nickell, Ryan Nickell, Clint Nickell, Josh Rushing, Zachary Rushing, and Spencer Rushing. Interment was in the Duncan Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Whitt Funeral Home.

Harvey graduated in 1958 from Duncan High School. He married Donnett “DeeDee” Jackson on February 8, 1989, in Ardmore. Harvey loved to preach and study God’s word. He served as the Associate Minister at True Gospel Tabernacle Church where he was a member and at Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Tatums, Oklahoma. He was loved by everybody who knew him and he never met a stranger. He patterned his life after his granddad, Clyde Nickell.

He worked as a printer at Little’s Print Shop and the PRN Print Shop, retiring in 2004 after 20 years. He loved preaching God’s word more. He talked about the Lord to all who would listen to him. One of his favorite verses was Hebrews 10:23, “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering for He is faithful that promised.” He never lost his faith and trust in God throughout his battle with cancer. When folks came to encourage him, they would leave with a new outlook on life.

He is survived by his wife, Donnett (DeeDee); four sons: Tony Nickell; Keith Nickell and Gayla; Don Nickell and Andrea; Dearl Nickell; three daughters: Nancy Prater and Roger; Wanda Jackson and Eddie; Diane Wright and Dawell; foster daughter, Brenda Boren; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large extended family and friends.
