Memorial Service Slated for June McDonald Albright
June Aldean McDonald Albright, held God’s hand and ascended into Heaven on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
She was welcomed into this world, along with her twin sister Joyce (Joy), on May 12, 1934 in Bristow, Oklahoma by her parents James Holland and Ebal McDonald and a young cousin, Bill Scroggins, who lived with them during their early years.
Six years later, in 1940, the family moved to Allen, Oklahoma where June spent the remainder of her youth until graduating from Allen High School (AHS) in 1952. At Allen High School June was an active teenager and student. She played in the Allen band, sang in the AHS and First Baptist Church choirs, was a member of Rainbow Girls, secretary for the Allen FFA chapter, was on the Allen HS basketball team, and played as a member of the Pontotoc County Girls All Star Basketball team along with two of her Allen teammates.
Often, many years later, June would continue to recount her love and appreciation of having lived in the Town of Allen Oklahoma. She would always say, “I had such a happy wonderful life living in a rural, smalltown community. I felt safe, loved and special.”
After graduation from high school, June and her twin sister Joy moved to Oklahoma City, living in the YWCA while attending Draughon’s School of Business. Following graduation from Draughon’s she began working for Mustang Oil & Gas company for several years. June later moved to Grand Island, Nebraska. It wasn’t long there after she married W. Joe Albright on September 4, 1959.
Joe, being a federal employee, together they began a journey of living in several different states, Nebraska, Minnesota, Virginia, Utah, Arizona, and finally retiring back to Sulphur, Oklahoma, Joe’s hometown and just a short distance from her beloved town of Allen.
June was a dedicated and hard worker in anything she was involved with. She was a “People Person” and loved selling real estate and the friendships made with those contacts. She was several times recognized as the Top Sales Person of the Year by the Phoenix, Arizona Board of Realtors. Having grown up with music, she was active at Shadow Rock Church and Community Theater events.
Upon retirement to Sulphur, June continued her service to others at the Crossway First Baptist Church as a greeter and singing in the choir. Being back in Oklahoma also allowed June to frequently be with her sister Joy and the devoted friends of her 1952 AHS classmates and other Allen Alumni. Many of this group felt like they were all sisters! June loved glitz, always dressed to perfection, eyelashes, long fingernails and was described as someone who could not pass up an open mike to sing or opportunity to dance.
She loved God, her Family and her Friends in that order.
June was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Doris Jean McDonald.
She is survived by her husband W, Joe Albright of Sulphur; three sons, Todd and wife Cheryl of Phoenix, Arizona, Ty and wife Diane of Dallas, Texas, and Tawn and wife Christele, Nashville, Tennessee; twin sister Joy McDonald Anderson, of Allen; brother James E. McDonald, of Stillwater; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service has been set for Saturday, February 4th, 10:30 a.m., in the Allen First Baptist Church.
