Florence Johnson

Florence Leona (Wall) Johnson of Allen was born in Stratford, Oklahoma on March 31, 1938 and passed on September 3, 2024.

She grew up in Stratford with her parents, four brothers, and four sisters. Her siblings described her as feisty, determined, and independent. In other words, she was stubborn.

That was good because she would need that stubbornness when she met Murriel Freeman Johnson at the end of September 1955 and married two weeks later. Their first date was to the Church of Christ on 12th Street in Ada, OK. That blessed beginning was the foundation of their 67year marriage until Murriel passed away on October 26, 2022, at the age of 91.

Florence raised seven children, numerous grandchildren, and a whole bunch of bonus children along the way. Some of the ‘special’ bonus children were Jennifer, Ricky, Billy, and Selina.

She loved that her house was where her kids and their friends wanted to be. They all knew if you went to her house hungry, she would feed you; if you were sleepy, she would give you a place to sleep; if you were in trouble, she would help you find a solution. And, if you couldn’t control your language she would offer to wash your mouth out with soap. She was always willing to give you what you needed.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Murriel Jr. and Danny; as well as granddaughters Shalanda and Heather.

She is survived by sons Roy of Durant, Randall of Ada, Terry of Allen, Clark and Michelle of Perkins, and daughter Patty and Oshiel of Ada. She is also survived by a sister, Annie of Lexington; brother-inlaw Harvey of Ada; 19 grandchildren; multiple great-grandchildren; and bonus daughters Tyke and Shawna.

Florence was a talented seamstress, dessert maker, and animal lover. She never met a stray that she didn’t love and often took home with her. So, if one of your cats or dogs went missing over the past 20 years, she probably had something to do with it. She was a longtime member of the Allen Assembly of God before attending the Church of God of Prophecy. She spoke fondly of her church friends and loved them like family. A special thank you to her sisters in Christ for over 50 years: Betty, Laudean, Mary, LaDean, and Agnes. She loved and honored your many years of friendship.

Services were held on Tuesday, September 10th, at 2 pm at the Allen Church of God of Prophecy, officiant was Ed Rutherford. Pallbearers were sons, Roy, Terry, and Clark, and grandsons Eldon, Tony, and Greg. Honorary pallbearers were son, Randall and grandsons Joseph, Jesse, Lakota, Dillion, Steven, Devin, and Ryan. Flower bearers were Michaelin, Jenny, Destiny, Cassandra, Misty, Jena, and Brittany.
