Rites held for Buck Cozad
Services for R.D. “Buck” Cozad, 90, will be 10:00 am Thursday, October 14 th , at Ada First Baptist Church, Jerry Wells and Harold Ware officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada.
Buck was born October 11, 1930 in Allen, Oklahoma to L.C. Cozad, Sr. and Enid Johnson Cozad. He passed away Friday, October 8, 2021. Buck was a 1948 graduate of Allen Schools and attended Murray State College in Tishomingo. He married his high school sweetheart, June Malone, on August 18, 1950.
Buck joined the National Guard and was federalized to Japan during the Korean War where he received the rank of Sergeant, Headquarter Company, 1 st Batallion, 180 th Infantry, 45 th Infantry Division. After a time of traveling with the military and working in the oilfields of Oklahoma, he and June settled in Ada. Buck went to work in the television and radio repair business, eventually owning his own business, Cozad Television Service. He later began a second career in the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier in Ada, then Stonewall, Oklahoma.
Buck was an active member of Ada First Baptist Church for over 63 years serving as a Deacon, in the television ministry, and wherever he saw a need.
He enjoyed spending time with family, collecting bells with his wife, traveling, gardening, and making beautiful stained glass creations for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, June; son R.D. Cozad Jr. and wife Esther; daughter Teresa West and husband Clifton; daughter Cynthia; 11 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; sisters Rose Marie Hogle and Billye Ann Pipkin; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother L.C. Cozad, Jr.; and sister Dorcie Lee Cozad.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The men of the family will be honoring Buck by wearing one of Papa’s neckties.
