Rites held for Ava Sawyer

Ava Lynn Sawyer, 73, of Ada, passed away on May 19, 2024 at her home in Ada. Ava was born on May 19, 1951 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to her parents Alvin and Agnes(Hampton) Orr.

As a young woman, she attended school in Calvin, Oklahoma and graduated in 1970. Ava met and married the love of her life, Tom Sawyer, in Sherman, Texas and they shared thirty-nine wonderful years together and many beautiful memories.

Ava was a lovely “song bird” and adored singing with her sister Sharon at many churches and all night singings. She was a realtor for many years and she was best known for being a loving and devout wife and caring and devoted mother.

Ava will be dearly missed by her family and those of whom she touched their lives, her legacy will forever live on through her adoring children and grandchildren.

Ava is preceded in death by her father Alvin “Bud” Orr; her mother Agnes Orr; and her two brothers Donald Ray Orr and Ray Spruill.

Ava is survived by her husband, Tom Sawyer of Ada; her daughters, Angie and husband Doug Foran, and Becky and husband Jeff Ficht; her twin brother Alvin and wife Rhonda Orr; her sister Sharon Stonecipher of Ada; her 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and many other nieces and nephews.

There was a memorial service held to honor Ava’s life on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 2:00PM at the Stratford Methodist Church in Stratford, Oklahoma.
